The strategies and activities of our Department aimed at engaging all components of society in dynamic processes of interaction and active participation.

Public Engagement: Where Science and Society Meet and Dialogue

The engagement of society is based on an open and multidirectional dialogue, aimed at valuing the knowledge of all actors involved and at broadening and amplifying the social impact of actions, while promoting understanding, collaboration, and the co-creation of shared value. The goal of Public Engagement for the DSPS is to listen to and give voice to audiences and all stakeholders, building a meaningful and long-term relationship, as well as informing and raising awareness.

Some Types of Activities Promoted and Implemented

  • organisation or participation in concerts, theatre performances, film festivals, exhibitions, and other public events open to the community;

  • publications (print and digital) aimed at a non-academic audience;

  • participation in or production of radio and television programmes;

  • publication and management of websites and other social media channels for scientific communication and dissemination;

  • participation in or organisation of initiatives for the valorisation, consultation, and sharing of research;

  • health promotion initiatives;

  • activities involving engagement and interaction with schools;

  • participation in the formulation of programmes of public interest (policy-making);

  • participation in urban development or territorial enhancement projects;

  • participation in international development cooperation initiatives;

  • participatory democracy initiatives;

  • initiatives for the co-production of knowledge.

    The network of collaborations established by DSPS reflects its role as a territorial and international hub for the production and transfer of knowledge, in line with the University’s third mission and contemporary social challenges.
