Our Collaborations

The network of collaborations established by DSPS reflects its role as a territorial and international hub for the production and transfer of knowledge, in line with the University’s third mission and contemporary social challenges.

Partnerships that strengthen the Department’s ability to contribute meaningfully to the training of the country’s administrative, political, and cultural elites.

Among the most important long-standing collaborations, active since 1966

  • SAIS Europe (Johns Hopkins University)
    Established through an agreement providing for structured exchanges of faculty and students, and a double degree with three DSPS master’s programmes (SID, IPE, IR). The agreement was confirmed after the creation of the DSPS in 2012, and has involved up to 10 students per year.

  • Il Mulino Publishing House
    A partner in the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge. DSPS is deeply involved in its ecosystem, including the Associazione Il Mulino, the Istituto Cattaneo, and several academic journals where numerous DSPS members have collaborated or continue to collaborate, often in editorial roles: Il Mulino, Contemporanea, Ricerche di Storia e Politica, Rivista Italiana di Storia Internazionale, Filosofia Politica, Storia del Pensiero Politico, Rassegna Italiana di Sociologia, Etnografia e Ricerca Qualitativa, Stato e Mercato, Scuola Democratica, Polis, Comunicazione Politica, Quaderni di Scienza Politica, Rivista Italiana di Politiche Pubbliche, Rivista Italiana di Scienza Politica (until 2014).
    The master’s programme Compass actively collaborates with Il Mulino on graduate career orientation and an editing and text review workshop.


Collaborations in the Bologna Area

  • Municipality of Bologna (since 2018)
    Agreement on social security and local welfare, which led to the co-design, together with the Ardigò School, of the master’s degree in Governance and Innovation in Local Welfare, and to cooperation with the Gian Franco Minguzzi Institution on mental health and social policy issues.

  • Court of Bologna
    Agreement for training activities, internships, and applied research in the fields of justice, fundamental rights, and social cohesion policies.

  • Theological Faculty of Emilia-Romagna
    Academic cooperation on public ethics, human rights, and intercultural dialogue.

  • Dominican Philosophical Study Centre
    Collaboration on political philosophy, history of thought, and interreligious dialogue.


Collaborations in the Forlì Area

  • Fondazione Roberto Ruffilli
    Cooperation on research and training initiatives focused on democratic citizenship, civil memory, and institutional history.

  • Leonardo Melandri Association
    A platform for dialogue among academia, business, the liberal professions, the city, and local institutions.

  • Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì
    Support for internationalisation and public engagement initiatives at the Forlì Campus, and for academic projects such as research on Russia and China.

  • Punto Europa – Forlì
    Strategic cooperation for training and dissemination activities on European Union institutions and policies, in collaboration with the Municipality, Chamber of Commerce, Confindustria, and the Bank of Italy in Forlì.

  • Prison Administration of Emilia-Romagna and Marche (PRAP)
    In collaboration with the DSG and EDU Departments, DSPS is involved in training, research, and policy support activities related to reintegration and restorative justice.

  • Emilia-Romagna Region
    Various agreements concerning studies and analyses of regional public policies, impact assessment, and training for public administration staff.

  • Regional Legislative Assembly of Emilia-Romagna
    Collaboration in research and outreach activities on institutional issues, civic participation, and regional policy-making.


Collaborations at the National Level

  • Centro Studi Americani
    Collaboration on research and cultural dissemination activities focused on transatlantic relations and U.S. foreign policy.

  • Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI)
    Agreement for joint projects on foreign policy, the European Union, international security, and global governance.

  • C.O. Gruppo s.r.l.
    Partnership for initiatives in political communication, strategic consultancy, and public policy analysis.


Collaborations at the International Level

  • UNA Europa
    An alliance of 11 European universities. Since the 2022–23 academic year, the first joint bachelor’s degree in Europe, European Studies, has been launched, awarded by four universities (UNIBO, KU Leuven, Complutense, Jagiellonian) and involving seven mobility partners (Freie, UC Dublin, Edinburgh, Helsinki, Leiden, Sorbonne, Zurich).

  • The Europaeum
    A European network coordinated by the University of Oxford that organises summer and winter schools for master’s and doctoral students.

  • NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT)
    Since 2006, collaboration with the NATO Allied Command Transformation involving teaching activities (a diplomatic crisis simulation), student internships, academic conferences, and joint research projects with the IAI on international security issues.
