Social Exclusion and Selection in Lower Secondary Education: School Segregation Dynamics and Criteria Concerning Immigrant-Origin Students

ALMA IDEA

Scientific Coordinator: Giancarlo Gasperoni

The research team investigates the segregation of immigrant and native students in lower secondary education in some contexts of medium-large municipalities in central and northern Italy. The project (Esclusione e selezione sociale nell’istruzione secondaria di I grado: dinamiche e criteri di segregazione scolastica degli alunni di origine immigrata) aims to:

- reconstruct the history of foreign ethnic groups in the territories under study;
- identify where and how much immigrant students are segregated by school and grade level;
- describe the factors producing segregation;
- explore how segregation impacts learning.
