Between August 25 and 29, 2025, the Department of Political and Social Sciences will open its doors to academic debate on international relations. We will host the 18th Pan-European Conference on International Relations (PEC), the flagship event of the European International Studies Association (EISA).
PEC means a global community of scholars who engage in academic activities aimed at untangling the logic of an increasingly broken world and the role of international relations theory in making sense of it. The Conference will be organized in thematic sections, both standing and new ones, and will welcome colleagues from a variety of disciplines from Europe and beyond.
Plenary sessions will highlight key issues in current debates in international relations, with leading experts from EISA. PEC will also offer opportunities through Early Career Workshops, social events, and professional development activities to nurture the EISA community.
The 18th edition of PEC has been designed to be as diverse and rewarding as possible, to formulate new ideas to be debated, criticized, and reshaped, through mutual respect and understanding. This is the spirit that has made EISA-PEC the leading annual IR event in Europe.

The Conference has been growing exponentially over the years: we have over 1500 participants joining us in Bologna this year! This effort has been made possible by the support of the Municipality of Bologna and the Emilia-Romagna region, which have provided invaluable financial and logistical support, allowing us to host such a large number of people. This, combined with the historical legacy and prestige of the University of Bologna, the academic excellence of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, and EISA's long-lasting experience, will make PEC 20205 a truly unique event.

This is why we are delighted to host the EISA community here in Bologna. On behalf of the Department and the University of Bologna, we wish all the participants a great conference.
