Through the analysis of the archives of the prison in Bologna, and the files deposited there, the project intends to relate the themes of regulatory innovations in the field of criminal execution with the economic and political-cultural evolutions of the historical period of reference (1945 -2000), with specific regard to the conditions of female detention in the period considered. The methodology, of a qualitative-quantitative nature, uses the analysis of content of the files reported in a large and detailed database, as well as the in-depth interview with regard to the second part of the research which takes into consideration the current situation experienced not only by the women detained at the Bologna prison, but also the professional experience and some other kind of experiences of the wider female universe who works and serves there, including penitentiary officers and members of
the penitentiary police force, educational and treatment staff psycho-pedagogical, the socio-health personnel, the cultural mediators, the volunteers up to the prison management itself.
