eDeTox addresses antisocial behaviour and toxic communication online (ABTCO) from an innovative perspective. ABTCO is here broadly defined as those communicative practices happening in our digital society, willingly or unwillingly causing social harms. An umbrella term, toxic communication can comprise very different behaviours, ranging from information pollution to various types of antagonistic online behaviours. There are four main components of eDeTox. The first three components focus on different dimensions of ABTCO: harms, places, and people. Only by better understanding all these dimensions, can we develop better responses to prevent and mitigate the harms of ABTCO. The final component of the project explores original responses. The project relies on robust sociotechnical methodologies which bring together qualitative, quantitative and computational data gathering techniques and analytical strategies.
