Research Centre for Judicial Studies (CeSROG)

Coordinator: Professor Michele Sapignoli

Description: The Research Centre for Judicial Studies (Centro Studi e Ricerche sull'Ordinamento Giudiziario — CeSROG) of the University of Bologna, founded in 1981, promotes research and study initiatives in the field of the administration of justice in Italy and in other countries, from a comparative perspective, carrying on the research activity first undertaken by Professor Giuseppe Di Federico in 1964. The centre's objectives are not only theoretical but also practical and aim to contribute to a better administration of justice by providing the knowledge to produce legislative, organizational, managerial and technological innovations, as well as relevant training initiatives.

Unlike common law countries, in civil law countries there are generally no study centres operating in the field of applied law. For this reason, and for the recognition of the activities carried out by the centre, in 1992 the National Research Council of Italy approved the creation of the Research Institute on Judicial Systems (formerly IRSIG-CNR, now IGSG-CNR), which operates in that same field, collaborating with CeSROG on various research topics. Both the centre and the institute were directed by Professor Giuseppe Di Federico.
